Blending engineering and research

Loraine Lab Research at UNC Charlotte uses methods from computer science and computational biology to analyze data sets and generate new knowledge about biology.

When possible, we use open source tools created by others.

Sometimes this work exposes a need for a new type of visualization or data analysis software. When that happens, we use our computer science know-how to create something new, interesting, and useful, something inspired by that need.

Integrated Genome Browser (IGB) is an example, including changes made to it since around 2008, or so. To download IGB, visit https://bioviz.org
