Dr. Robert Reid uses computational technologies and statistics for biological data analysis with expertise in sequence, variant and pathway analysis and genome sequence assembly. He has produced genome assemblies in many species, including blueberry, oat, drosophila, starfish and sea cucumbers. His past works includes developing open source software visualization tools to create stunning visual linkage map renderings. Other work includes characterizing microbial profiles in soil to improve agronomy.placeholder text

Brandon Bendickson graduated from UNC Charlotte with his Bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2024. He joined the lab shortly thereafter where he now works as a Graduate Research Assistant while he pursues his Master’s degree in Bioinformatics. Working under the direction of Dr. Robert Reid, Brandon is primarily identifying and mitigating bias in the genomic analysis of several tomato varieties. Brandon’s work also involves processing gene count data from different tomato varieties, mapping BLAT results from the UCSC Genome Browser to assign sample IDs, and streamlining bioinformatic workflows through custom scripts.
